What's in the Box

Remote controls are not attractive! My solution? Store them in a decorative box on the cocktail table.

Organize your desk by keeping pens and pencils in a box.

Keep one on you nightstand for all you nighttime needs.

Create a spot for important papers and stamps and store it all in a box.

Keep a box in the kitchen for loose recipes and take out menus.

Shagreen

Shagreen is defined as : an untanned leather covered with small round granulations and usually dyed green OR : the rough skin of various sharks and rays when covered with small close-set tubercles. This material (real and Faux) is used in interior design on furniture, wall coverings, flooring  and accessories. It has seen a huge rise in popularity in recent years and I absolutely love it! It's a great unexpected texture and luxurious element in any room. I love this wallcovering from Ralph Lauren!!

Accessorizing Consoles

A well accessorized console is like the little black dress with the perfect jewelry. When it all comes together its classic and gorgeous! Start with an interesting console and add some of your favorite elements. Here are some ideas, coffee table books, picture frames, art, objects d'art, or vases. I like combining finishes as well. Mix something shiny with something textural, something matte with something crystal. Here are few examples that pull it all together!

Animal Attraction

Animals are frequently featured in sculpture, paintings and photography. All kinds of animals from man's best friend, majestic horses, exotic cats, feathered friends or regal elephants have all been the source of inspiration for many artists. Whatever your preference, there is an accessory or art piece representing your favorite creature.

Mixed Media

Picture frames are the perfect accessory in any space besides maybe the kitchen. They add instant texture or sparkle plus personalize the space with whatever images go inside. Classic silver frames, basic wood frames, or more interesting pieces such as these frames can really draw attention to your friends and family.

Points of Interest

I love accessories that don't look mass produced. Vases, boxes, frames, and bowls made by artisans are always the pieces that last forever. Interior designer Jay Jeffers has a new store front specializing in accessories and furniture.

Finishing Touches

Accessorizing a bathroom can be tricky. You don't want to put too many decorative elements in a small space. Also, most bathrooms are not well ventilated, so much of the decorative touches cannot be effected by moisture. Here is a bathroom that I love with some of my favorite accessories!

Soap dispenser, tissue cover, storage containers in a coordinating metal finish. Special soap and an orchid complete the look while still leaving plently of counter space. I like this soap dispenser from Waterworks!

Natural Sponges

Natural elements work well in the bathroom...like these sponges. Soft, absorbant towels are a must!!
