Lately I've been drawn to blue. It reminds of the ocean...both calming and volatile at the same time. It can so soothing and peaceful and yet if you've ever been caught in huge wave you know how violent the ocean can be. In rooms I find that blue is mostly a relaxing color. It can be very energetic when used in it's most saturated state. Here are some images of blue in the more ocean-y - teal colorway.

I would never say that orange is a favorite color of mine. Orange has always conjured up images of Tide laundry soap and syrupy soda. However, one look at my website, blog, and logo and clearly, I do like orange! Orange is a color that is life affirming, exciting and warm. It is an energetic color and looks great when paired with neutrals. Tan, cream, and white are wonderful background colors to let orange pop. I remember when brass fell out of favor. I used to gag going into bathrooms where every fixture was golden brass. But of course everything that is old is new again and with that brass is becoming chic once more! And I like it! I missed the warmth of brass. Dot to Dot

Polka dots are fun and whimsical. Incorporating them into interior design can be tricky. Color and scale are very important when using polka dots. Large scale polka dots in primary colors look child-like and dramatic while smaller scale dots in subdued tones give a more sophisticated look. Of course you can mix and match these combinations and end up with child-like sophistication! Here are a few examples of polka dots that I love!

Deck the Halls...

I like to put up my Christmas decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving. It's a lot of work and I like to enjoy the decorations for a least a month before packing them all away again. My favorite place to shop for holiday decor is Neiman Marcus. This year they have a collection that I really like called Champagne Frost. Cozy Up to Fall

This is my favorite time of year. It's still bright and sunny but cool enough to wear jeans, sweaters and boots. It's the time of year I start lighting candles, getting my throw blankets out and watching movies at home on Saturday nights. Fly me Away

I find that the outdoors are one of best places to find inspiration. This morning I received an email with a variety of birds and the colors were so intense and rich that it inspired me to design a living room. Just add hardwood floors and luxurious area rug and you're golden!

 

 

On Your Mark

Get set...GO! The Mark Hotel in NYC is is great example of hotel design. I love this grand entrance!

 This is what I think of when someone says they want their bedroom to be hotel-esque. Calm, soothing, color palette and inviting furniture.

These bathrooms are unique and clean-feeling...

The living spaces are such a contrast to the frenetic energy of NYC.

I'm not as crazy about the hotel lobby....It seems like involuntary hypnosis may occur if you stay there more than 5 minutes.
