Book Worm

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I love books in a home. I think they are captivating and inject warmth into any space. I love going into homes and looking at what people read. It tells so much about a person. I usually find instant conversation when I see that someone has read the same books as me. Even though I don't read as many books as I would like to, I have books in almost every room of my house. Whether your space is modern or traditional books look great in any style!

Built-in

So I posted an entry about freestanding etageres this week, so, lets compare them to built-in bookcases or storage spaces. I think each are appropriate based on how you live and what the space demands. For example, some living rooms may have recessed niches on either side of the fireplace that just scream for a built-in. A living room may be so large that freestanding etagere may fill the space and add interest. Which do you prefer built-ins or freestanding?

Shelved

Books and accessories can make a space feel finished, livable and welcoming. I love seeing bookcases or etageres in the living room or library. These items tell the story of who lives in the space. Photos, collected items from travels, boxes, books, and vases look great when displayed in an organized fashion. Sometimes built-ins make more sense than a freestanding unit but here are some samples that I love.
