Poster Child

4 poster beds are great for adding drama and volume without bulk. If you have a bedroom with high ceilings a 4 poster bed can give the room interest and height. They are a terrific alternative to the massive amount of upholstered beds we are seeing so much of these days. The options for poster beds are immense. Consider wood, mirror, metal or a combination of upholstery and one of the aforementioned materials for a four poster bed. Which of these bedrooms would you love to have?

Dot to Dot

Polka dots are fun and whimsical. Incorporating them into interior design can be tricky. Color and scale are very important when using polka dots. Large scale polka dots in primary colors look child-like and dramatic while smaller scale dots in subdued tones give a more sophisticated look. Of course you can mix and match these combinations and end up with child-like sophistication! Here are a few examples of polka dots that I love!

Cozy Up to Fall

This is my favorite time of year. It's still bright and sunny but cool enough to wear jeans, sweaters and boots. It's the time of year I start lighting candles, getting my throw blankets out and watching movies at home on Saturday nights. Here are a few rooms that make me want to get the latest releases and a bowl of popcorn...

Blanket Trunks

Who doesn't need extra storage? Whenever I design a new space for a client I am almost always asked to provide storage where possible. Whether its for toiletries, china or bedding, most people need an extra spot for their things. If the style is appropriate blanket trunks are a great place to store summer and/or winter bedding at the foot of a bed. It's great in a guest room too where if an extra blanket is needed in the middle of the night it's an obvious place to look. Here are two rooms that successfully use trunks at the foot of the beds.

Bedtime Story

I love wallpaper in a bedroom. It tells the story of the room right away. Whether the room is soft and feminine, young and playful, or masculine and geometric, wallpaper instantly makes a statement. Sometimes wallpaper isn't such a statement but adds depth and texture that paint just can't compete with. Wallpaper has come a long way in design and style. Gone are the tacky borders and plastic-like feel of the old school papers. Today they are rich and sophisticated with tons of options. Here are a few bedrooms that use wallpaper effectively:

Bunk Mates

Bunk beds can be an amazing space saver! They are usually not my favorite thing to put in kids' rooms but sometimes it's necessary. However built-in bunk beds can be so well done that even the adults will want to sleep in them! Unfortunately, lots of space is needed to do built-in bunks but if you've got it, it's the way to go! Here are a few instances where built-ins looks great!

On Your Mark

Get set...GO! The Mark Hotel in NYC is is great example of hotel design. I love this grand entrance!

This is what I think of when someone says they want their bedroom to be hotel-esque. Calm, soothing, color palette and inviting furniture.

These bathrooms are unique and clean-feeling...

The living spaces are such a contrast to the frenetic energy of NYC.

I'm not as crazy about the hotel lobby....It seems like involuntary hypnosis may occur if you stay there more than 5 minutes.

Canopy Beds

I remember as kid some of my friends had canopy beds. I thought they were soooo amazing! Like a permanent tent to sleep in but with a comfortable mattress! The canopy beds of today are way more sophisticated than the pink and polyester versions of my youth. My favorite one this guy...so gorgeous!!!
